Becoming a technical diver is for many divers what they aspire to. Technical divers want to reach greater depths and to stay for longer to more enjoy their diving. For some divers technical diving is about exploration, finding things that other people have not seen, for other divers it is about reaching places few other divers get to. It is a great thrill to think that you are seeing somewhere or something that few other divers have ever seen. However, it is important to recognise that whilst technical diving does have risks it is possible to minimise these risks through careful and appropriate training and planning.
The SSI Extended Range course is designed to safely introduce divers to open circuit technical diving. The programme qualifies you to dive to a depth of 45 metres using nitrox mixtures of up to 100%. The Extended Range programme will show you how to plan and execute a dive plan consisting of a single gas switch with accelerated decompression using a higher oxygen content gas for the decompression.
