Becoming a technical diver is for many divers, what they aspire to. Technical divers want to reach greater depths and to stay for longer to enjoy their diving more. For some divers, technical diving is about exploration and finding things that other people have not seen, for other divers, it is about reaching places few other divers get to. It is a great thrill to think that you are seeing somewhere or something that few other divers have ever seen before. However, it is important to recognise that whilst technical diving does have risks, it is possible to minimize these risks through careful and appropriate training and planning. The SSI Extended Range course is designed to safely introduce divers to open circuit technical diving. The programme qualifies you to dive to a depth of 45 meters using Nitrox mixtures of up to 100%.
The Extended Range programme will show you how to plan and execute a dive plan consisting of a single gas switch with accelerated decompression using a higher oxygen content gas for the decompression.
This course can be completed in either a Backmount or Sidemount configuration (Extended Range Sidemount certification is needed if you wish to use Sidemount).
