Every experienced diver or any diver with common sense, will carry a compass with them as an orientation aid, but carrying a compass doesn't make much sense if you don't know how it works correctly or what to do if it stopped working or we forgot it?
 
Without a compass, navigating in situations in which visibility is limited, or in which there are no elements to take as a reference when plotting a course can lead to a total loss of orientation and become potentially dangerous scenarios to find yourself in. So the SSI Navigation specialty will introduce the concept of natural navigation techniques, as well as the use of a compass to help you out in almost all situations underwater.
